Play Russian billiards training. Basic rules for playing billiards

Billiards is divided into two types: carom and pool. Carom is played on a table without pockets, the goal is to hit the cue ball on two balls or on the boards. Pool is played on a table with pockets, the goal is to pocket the colored balls into the pockets by knocking them out with a cue ball. If you're interested, wikiHow also has a great article on how to play pool. And in this article we will look at the basics of playing carom and its types, as well as talk about game strategies and equipment. To play carom, you need to be able to make trick and double hits. If you already know how to play pool, start learning carom!

Steps

Part 1

Learning the rules

    Take a friend and to the billiard table. For any kind of carom, two people are needed. You can play with three people, but the standard carom is designed for two. You will need a standard pool table without pockets - 4 feet by 8, 4 1/2 feet by 9, 5 feet by 10, or 6 feet by 12. It is very important that the table be "without" pockets. You could play on a regular pool table (pocketed billiards), but you will soon notice that the pockets interfere with the ball's trajectory and potentially ruin the game. Here's what you need to know about the pool table:

    By drawing lots, determine whose first move. The draw goes like this: everyone places their ball near the board (the short side of the table where you will hit), hit the ball and see whose ball rolls closer to the board. The game has not started yet, but your skills are already needed!

    • If you hit your opponent's ball when you hit, you lose the ability to announce who will go first. If you win a stroke, you usually announce that you will act second. The player who breaks, instead of making a strategic blow, usually spends his turn setting the balls.
  1. Get ready to play. Each of you will need a cue to start (you have them, right?). The carom cue is shorter and lighter than the pool cue. They have a shorter white tip for the sticker (white detail near the tip) and a thicker cue bar. Then, you will need three balls - one white billiard ball (hereinafter referred to as the "cue ball"), one white ball marked with a black dot ("dotted cue ball") and one object ball. It is usually red. Sometimes, instead of a ball marked with a black dot, a yellow ball is used.

    Decide with your partner the rules by which you would like to play. As with any ancient game, in billiards, there are several options for playing. Some rules make the game easier, while others make it harder. Some make the party faster or slower. It all depends on how much time you have and how well you play billiards.

    Play! Gently move your arm back and then move the pendulum forward. The rest of the body must remain still during the impact. The ball must stop by itself. All you have to do is hit so that the ball hits the other two and you get a point. Technically, each hit is called a "carom." Here are some more features:

    • The player who goes first hits the red ball (it will be strange if he hits the other one)
    • If you score a point, you continue your turn.
    • The game of "slop" (accidentally obtained points) usually does not count.
    • Keep one foot firmly on the ground at all times.
    • A foul is scored if the ball "bounces" or if a rolling ball is hit.
  2. Look at the point on the billiard ball where you will hit with the cue. You can practice on test hits. Point the cue where you would immediately hit the ball if you could. Then aim at this point.

    • Generally, you will want to hit the center of the ball. Sometimes, you can hit from the side to cause the ball to spin sideways. It's called "English punch". Sometimes you can hit below the center of the ball to go over the ball you don't want to hit and hit the ball you want to move.

    Part 2

    Practicing with a cue and taking a stance
    1. Get the right cue. You should very calmly and relaxed take the cue with a strong hand at the thick part. The thumb should, as it were, support the cue, and you need to grab the cue with your index, middle and ring fingers. The brush should look down so that when struck, it does not move to the side.

      • You need to grab the cue about 6 inches (15 cm) above the longitudinal center of gravity of the cue. If you are short, you can take a little closer, and vice versa, if you are tall, then you can take a little further.
    2. Put the fingers of the second hand on the point to put the brush in the bridge. This bridge will keep the cue from moving to the side during the strike. There are three main bridges: closed, open and side stop.

      • With the bridge closed, you wrap your index finger around the cue and use your other fingers to support your hand. This will allow, with a stronger blow, to reliably control the cue.
    3. With the bridge open, make a V-shaped arc with your thumb and forefinger. The cue will slide between the fingers, and they will not let him deviate to the side. The open bridge is more suitable for softer hits. This bridge is preferred by players who have problems with a closed bridge. One variation of the open bridge is the raised bridge, in which when you strike, you raise your hand to strike the cue over the ball that interferes with the strike.

      • Use the board stop when the billiard ball is so close to the board that there is nowhere to put your hand. Put the cue on board and hold it with your other hand.
    4. Get ready for the hit. Lean over the cue ball and the ball you want to hit. The leg on the side of the hand with which you hold the cue (right if you are right-handed and left if you are left-handed) should be bent at an angle of 45 degrees. The second leg should be put forward a little so that it does not interfere with the other leg.

    5. Stand at a comfortable distance from the table. Distance depends on 3 things: your height, arm length, and where the balls are on the table. The farther from the board the balls, the further you have to reach.

      • In many variants of billiards, according to the rules, at least one foot must touch the ground during a strike. If you are in an uncomfortable position, then you need to either hit other balls or use a cue stand. This way you don't have to hold on to the top of the cue while hitting.
    6. Stand as if above the line of impact. The chin should be slightly tilted so that nothing interferes with the view of the cue. If you are tall, you need to bend your knees and lean forward a little. You also need to slightly tilt the pelvis forward.

      • Without bending over the cue, you need to stand so that your head is approximately above the middle of the cue. However, some professional players tilt their heads a bit.
      • Most pool players bow their heads over the cue so that there is a distance of 1 to 6 inches (2.5 to 15 cm) between them. Those who play snooker practically touch the cue with their heads. The closer the head is to the cue, the greater the accuracy of the strike, but at the same time, you have less opportunity to swing to hit.

The moment of the emergence of this most popular game today has not yet been recorded anywhere and by anyone, and in our country it appeared in the distant 18th century thanks to Peter I, who learned about it in Holland. Now you can play a couple of games on billiards not only in numerous clubs, but also at home by installing a billiard table and acquiring other necessary attributes - a cue stick, crayons and balls. The demand for the game is explained simply: there are no restrictions on age, physical fitness, the price is quite acceptable, it all depends on the skills of the player. But in order to achieve certain success, you will need to learn some of the rules of both the game itself and the billiard technique.

There are many types of this game, but the most common are eight pool and Russian billiards, it is also divided into American, Siberian (Moscow pyramid), Neva pyramid and Russian (seventy-one points). It is more difficult to play the latter types, because the diameter of the pocket is slightly larger than the balls themselves, which requires increased accuracy and a certain force of impacts to score. You need to set fifteen numbered balls using a triangle in the form of a pyramid. Place another one, the cue ball, at the other end of the table, at the marked “home” point. If you want to act according to all the rules, make a draw of the right of the first hand: stand with a partner, at the short side (on both sides of the table), and one at a time hit the ball so that it, touching the back side, returns to you the closer, the better. Make sure that your ball does not end up on the side of the opponent, does not fall into the pocket, does not touch the rest of the boards, otherwise you will lose the draw. The winner determines who will strike the first blow - him or the enemy. Then, in fact, the game itself begins, the purpose of which is to score eight balls before the opponent. Before breaking, place the cue ball anywhere in the house. As soon as you touch it, the blow will be counted. To recognize the strike as successful, you need:
pocket at least one ball;
three of them should touch the sides;
one crossed the middle line and two more also touched the sides.
If you cannot do this, then your competitor can continue the game himself, give you this right, set up the pyramid again and hit, or allow you to do it. Then you do not score balls, but transfer the right of impact to your partner. The cue ball does not touch the balls - the same plus a penalty, as for trying to push the ball. For a more accurate hit, aim exactly at the middle of the cue ball.

If you violate one of these points, you will be fined:
your ball flew off the table;
when breaking, the cue ball was taken out of the house, or they did not hit the balls;
you will not stand on the floor with at least one foot;
touch any ball with a part of the body, clothes and other things;
hit at the moment of movement of any of the balls;
perform a double hit.
The nature of the penalty depends on the type of game, in most cases the competitor takes the right ball from the game, which is awarded to him. The exception is the Neva pyramid, in which the opponent can either take your ball for himself, or, having abandoned it, put the cue ball at the desired point and strike. Also, the rules of this type of game imply clogging exclusively with a cue ball.

In the Moscow pyramid, they score with it. A distinctive feature of the Russian is that the winner is the one who manages to score seventy-one points. This is determined by summing up the numbers on the pocketed balls. In the American ball, you can score with any balls, only after specifying the aiming one and the place where you are going to send it. It doesn't work - minus five points. Try to choose a good, straight cue before the game, because the performance depends on it. To do this, roll it on a flat surface - defects will immediately become visible. After each stroke, do not forget to rub the cue sticker with chalk. Pay attention to it - do not take worn and beveled. No less relevant is the billiard player's stand, the position of the body. Hold the cue firmly with your dominant hand. Place the right foot over the same palm and point it at 45 degrees relative to the side, and the left foot sideways and forward from the right so that the distance between the legs is half a meter. With your other hand, make a so-called bridge for the cue. In the eight-ball pool, you must first pocket all the balls of the same color, and then black. The sequence is chosen according to the general rules. Before hitting, you announce which ball and where you will send it. It turns out - continue the series, otherwise the opponent plays. And it continues from where the cue ball stopped. Choose a group for the first potting: if the ball is striped, the player hits only such balls, and the opponent others. If, in addition to the required one, you roll the competitor's balls, they are counted to you, and if at the first touch you touch someone else's ball or eight, you pass the move. At the same time, the opponent puts the cue ball where he wants. If you pocket an eight before all your other balls, or together with the cue ball, you lose.

Russian billiards, better known as "Pyramid" is a collective image of various varieties of billiard games, in particular pocket billiards. The main rule and requirement is the size of the table and balls established by the FRB, the arrangement is no less important:

  • The table should reach 3.6 meters in length and 1.8 meters in width;
  • The diameter of the billiard ball should be 6.8-7 cm;
  • The size of the pockets located in the corner is 7.3 cm;
  • The size of pockets located in the middle is 8.1 cm;
  • Billiard balls are placed as close as possible to each other by means of a special triangle;
  • The center front ball must be positioned so that it is on the back line. At the same time, the pyramidal one has a parallel arrangement with respect to the rear side.
  1. According to the rules of Russian billiards, strikes are performed longitudinally using a cue sticker. It is important that at least one billiard player's foot is firmly on the floor.
  2. The balls must be stationary. If the ball was pocketed into a pocket hole not according to the rules, without a preliminary order, or simply jumped out of the playing field, then it is put back.
  3. The blow is considered finished only when all the balls stop.
  4. Incorrectly executed blows threaten with a penalty. These include a double strike, designed so that the cue sticker touches the breaking ball twice. Pushed - when not only the cue ball is pushed in parallel, but also the object ball, as well as pressure or miss.

All billiard players are located near the front side, but on different sides of the longitudinal line. You can choose a place for yourself by discussing it with each other, or by drawing lots. In the area of \u200b\u200bthe "home" each participant in the game puts the ball, after which a simultaneous blow is applied with a message to the back side. The right to choose goes to the billiard player whose ball, after contact with the back side, is closest to the side in front. The rules of Russian billiards also provide for a loss in the draw.

Loss in the rally occurs in those situations if the ball:

  • Did not touch the back side;
  • Touched with the long side of the table;
  • Went beyond the boundaries of the longitudinal line;
  • Hit a pocket hole, or jumped off the playing field.

Varieties of balls in Russian billiards

played is a ball that, after a successful hit, ended up in a pocket. Then this participant of the game has the right to make one more stroke.

hung- if the ball is in the pocket after the end of the "move" of the billiard player due to the fact that the table has staggered, then this hit is not counted, and the ball returns to its original place.

popped up- this is the name of the ball that left the table. If this was an object ball, then it is simply placed again on the back mark, while no penalties are assigned to the participant in the game. In situations where the cue ball has left the table, the billiard player is fined, and previously scored goals are not taken into account.

Not ordered balls - installation rules

According to the rules of Russian billiards: if the balls were pocketed outside the rules or left the table during the game, then they are placed by the referee on the back line of the field. If this position is occupied, then such balls are placed as close and longitudinally as possible, but not close, to the blocking ball, adhering to the direction of the back side of the table. When occupying these positions, the balls are placed near the central zone of the playing field.

The rules in Russian billiards provide for the imposition of fines in the following cases:

  • If the perfect hit was made by any other part of the cue, except for the sticker;
  • If the subsequent stroke is made to complete the previous move;
  • When the cue ball leaves the playing field;
  • During a double blow, push, pressure;
  • When extinguishing balls with foreign objects or body parts;
  • If a shot is made at a cue ball that is outside the home area of the field;
  • If the billiard player does not follow the wagering rules, or misses.

American game rules

This kind of Russian billiards is very popular among players. In this case, the cue ball is within the home area of the playing field, but not on the home line. Breaking the pyramid, the player is allowed to choose any ball that will play the role of the cue ball. If the object ball hits the pocket along with the cue ball, then the hit is counted (provided that both balls are in contact). The winner is the billiard player who scores eight balls first.

Probably, it was such that friends invite you to play in bars or billiards clubs, but you refuse, referring to being busy, in fact, you are simply embarrassed not to know this game.

How to learn to play Russian billiards

As you already know, the billiard game is divided into different directions, the rules, even they, are also divided into subspecies, for example, Russian billiards, the field of thirty directions differs. Its main characteristics are large balls, with a diameter of about sixty-eight millimeters, they are of the same color and numbered from one to fifteen. Also, tables vary in size, covered with green cloth, markings are applied on it, dividing the table into two parts. In general, there were many disputes over directions, rules, there were also prohibitions, but after the formation of the Billiard Sports Federation, three were officially withdrawn. Common divisions of Russian, this is the Moscow pyramid, American. Other stroke options are penalized.

A kickoff is played. The players stand on the sides of the table line, immediately make blows together, taking the cue balls to the back board. The player who won the rally and whose ball came to rest closer to the first board. An unsuccessful rally, when the cue ball, could not touch the back side, went to the opponent’s part, or fell overboard, in any of these scenarios, the rally is repeated. As soon as the winner is determined, the first actions are performed by him. Then, he enters in order of steps.

Balls are placed tightly, triangular shape, pyramid. The cue ball is counted if there was a hit with a cue sticker. The location of all the balls in the house, the action takes place on the reverse side, the outlined line. The ball is celebrated when, after a sure hit, it rolled into the hole. It happens that he hit the hole, rolling down the side, then he returns to the game again, no penalty is taken. The same thing happens with the sighting that fell overboard. The action is considered completed when the ball is completely up, if spinning on revenge, a stop is expected.

What are the fines in Russian billiards

Knowing the correct requirements, you must know the penalty. In order not to expose yourself to their collection, try to comply with honest actions. So the penalties are:

  1. Lack of hitting a bat with an object ball;
  2. At the end of the stroke, the cue ball rolled out of bounds;
  3. The player's foot is not in contact with the floor;
  4. Suddenly you touched the ball while hitting something;
  5. You can not make a double blow with a cue;
  6. If they made shock actions not with the help of a cue ball;
  7. And of course, any interference in the opponent's game.

Having understood the classic form, it is not superfluous to get acquainted with the rest a little.

  1. American, initial arrangement, similar to the classic one. Its meaning is to place the first eight balls into the holes. In general, the requirements are similar, the difference in the size of tables, balls, is completely opposite to Russian. The participant who rolled into the pocket can make the next stroke in a row. If neither ball has been squeezed, after the action of the cue ball and the object ball, at least one must touch two different sides.
  2. Moscow - the starting position is standard, and the actions are carried out with a single ball. The player is allowed to place the cue ball at an arbitrary point, but is warned if it is not in the house. If the ball is not touched and it remains in the home zone, the blow is made again.

You can observe yourself, there is plenty to choose from which game to start learning. To summarize, the American pool is fast, active and dynamic, it is often preferred by young people, this species appeared in Russia not so long ago. As for Russian billiards, the game is measured, like chess in motion, suitable for absolutely anyone, regardless of level. If in doubt, where to start, it is recommended from Russian. After mastering it, it will become easier for you to master other types and you will feel more confident.

When leaving the striking position, do not place the ball as it seems spectacular. To do this, you can make a hit where the cue ball enters a new position, or roll the cue ball to an inconvenient position for the opponent. At the very beginning of the game, do not rush to the shock position, take a good look around. You can gain experience or improve your level by enrolling in any billiards school in your city. You can find their addresses on the Internet. Or, as an option, sports - bars, amateur clubs, as well, all information on them can be seen on the Internet. The game of billiards itself balances emotions, helps to develop a number of qualities, as in any sport, character is brought up. If you lose, do not lose heart, this is another reason to work more on your knowledge and technique. Experienced billiard players take this lightly and with humor, never showing negative emotions.

tell friends

It has been around for more than one hundred years, and among his admirers there were even crowned persons. To become a real professional in this business, you need to devote most of your life to billiards. Professionals hone their skills for years, their precise, technical movements fascinate, and it seems that it is very easy to hit the right ball at the right point. But beginners who enthusiastically take up the cue are often disappointed - for some reason everything is much more complicated than it seems from the outside, the blows do not come out, the balls fly not at all where they want to.

The main mistakes of beginners

How can a beginner learn to play billiards? One of the classic options is to simply start going to a pool club with friends, take part in games, catch random tips from more experienced players and improve yourself. This is what 90% of beginners do and make a dangerous mistake. Not all of your table partners are professionals, their advice is not always correct. Going in an intuitive way, you will not put the shot correctly, you will not learn to see the game and manage it. It is better to immediately learn correctly, and for this you need to contact only professionals.

First Steps: Mastering Game Theory

So where to start? Familiarize yourself with the theoretical part of this sport. Learn the rules of different games on billiards, choose for yourself what is closer to you - Russian billiards, or pool. Read good literature on billiards. This is an important, although not very interesting stage. In addition, theoretical training will help you navigate and build the right one.

Correct strike placement

In the game of billiards, the setting of the strike plays a key role. This is, first of all, the approach to the game table, the location of both hands, the cue strike itself. You need to practice the blow constantly, this is the basis of a high-quality, beautiful and correct game. It is impossible without the correct setting, so beginners should definitely devote time to this issue.

You can train with a good teacher, or watch video tutorials from top professionals. The best option is training in a specialized club or billiards school.

Basic exercises billiards for beginners

Training does not begin immediately with gambling, but in stages. The main types of exercises for beginners:

  • working out the impact "idle". Swipe the cue along the line of impact several times, watch. does he go to the side, up;
  • hitting your ball into the pocket, to the selected point;
  • hitting someone else's ball in line with the cue ball;
  • cut blows.

Working out the main types of strikes is very simple. You place two balls on the table on the middle line, a little apart from each other. Your goal is to pocket someone else's ball into the middle pocket. If the shot is placed correctly, the balls will behave correctly: with a clapper, the cue ball will stop in place; when pulled, it will roll back; with a coasting blow, it will run after a stranger.

Working with a trainer

If you want to become a good billiard player, you definitely need training under the guidance of an experienced professional. This is the best way to master such an interesting, complex and truly exciting game as billiards. As your skill grows, one day you will be able to impress your friends at the pool table by performing the most difficult or even legendary Lehman shot.
